I went to school to help people. I still do.
I started college planning to be a psychologist. I wanted to help people, that was the whole idea. Then I hit a neuroanatomy exam, completely bombed memorizing the parts of the brain, and figured the clinical route wasn't for me. Numbers were a different story. Accounting and finance just made sense, so I switched, and I spent years in corporate finance. For a while I assumed I'd traded the “helping people” thing for spreadsheets.
Turns out I hadn't. I just got there a different way.
For most people, taxes aren't really a math problem. They're a stress problem. It's the putting-it-off, the income you're not sure how to report, the IRS letter sitting unopened on the counter. I started Monaco CPA in 2025 to build the kind of practice I wanted to see: personal, easy to reach, and judgment-free. Somewhere you can bring the messy stuff and just get it handled.
So I guess I ended up doing what I set out to do. I just did it with a spreadsheet instead of a textbook.
